Volunteer Positions
Website Management volunteer
The Sesquicentennial Commission office staff is in need of a website manager to help keep the Sesquicentennial webpage up-to-date with correct and accurate information. An ideal candidate would be willing to learn Flickr, an online photo management tool. Volunteers would be responsible for the photo organization on the Sesquicentennial website and blog. Hours are flexible.
Position Activities/Responsibilities:
1. Frequently check website to make sure information is up-to-date
2. Organize and catalog photos
3. Upload photos to Flikr and Sesquicentennial website
Videographer volunteer
The Sesquicentennial Commission office staff is looking for volunteers to travel to various Sesquicentennial activities to video record events. These videos will then be used on the Sesquicentennial website and through other various promotional materials, as well as archived for future reference. Previous experience with video and film is a must. Hours are flexible.
Position Activities/Responsibilities:
1. Travel to various Sesquicentennial events
2. Take creative and professional quality videos
3. Organize and catalog videos
Community Project volunteer
The Sesquicentennial Commission office staff is in need of volunteers to help organize and head Sesquicentennial Partner Projects. Possible project ideas include a tile mosaic to be displayed at the 2008 State Fair, a Sesquicentennial train to travel across Minnesota, and a Big Top theater production. These volunteers would be communicating between each organization and the Sesquicentennial office as well as helping to promote the events. Previous experience in a related field would be preferred. Weekday position.
Position Activities/Responsibilities:
1. Work closely with Sesquicentennial Partner Projects
2. Correspond through mail, e-mail and phone
3. Work on publicity packets for events
4. Mailing and filing information
Events Planning volunteer
The Sesquicentennial Commission office staff is in need of volunteers to help compile and organize events and projects from across the state that are related to Sesquicentennial celebrations. There is a strong need for volunteers from all areas of Minnesota. An events planning volunteer would have the opportunity to work with communities across the state planning various events and celebrations. This is a great chance to learn more of Minnesota and its communities. Weekday position.
Position Activities/Responsibilities:
1. Frequently check website to make sure information is up-to-date
2. Compile events on the Sesquicentennial Events calendar
3. Organize events into a database
4. Work with groups and communities to learn of Sesquicentennial events
5. Telephone various groups
6. Correspond through mail and e-mail
Cookbook Committee volunteer
Work with a committee of people to develop and produce a Minnesota Sesquicentennial Cookbook. It is also an opportunity to work on a lasting project that will be used and remembered for years to come. Working on the MN Sesquicentennial Cookbook Committee will be a great opportunity to connect with others across the state. Hours are flexible.
Position Activities/Responsibilities:
1. Contact various groups and organizations regarding cookbook information
2. Make posters/handouts regarding the MN Cookbook
3. Find recipes
4. Organize and file recipes
5. Determine what recipes/stories/photos to include into the MN Cookbook
6. Outline cookbook format
7. Contact sponsors
8. Advertise for the MN Cookbook
One-time Events
As the Sesquicentennial gains momentum there will be opportunities for one-time volunteers. These opportunities can range from manning a booth at a community event, providing informational hand-outs at a parade, or helping direct visitors through a Sesquicentennial exhibit. All one-time positions would be between 3 to 4 hours on a specific day. Keep watching www.mn150years.org for more information on possible opportunities.
