Unemployment numbers in America today are reaching record highs. In December of 2009 the unemployment rate reached almost 10% and many suggest that the number will rise. With numbers rising, many states are doing what they can in order to help put Americans back to work and raise wages for those who are working. Minnesota is an inspiring state in these bad economic times. Even with lower minimum wages than most states, they are in the process of putting many of it’s citizens back to work. Minnesota Politics Shape Al Franken
Last November Minnesotans went to the polls to vote for the Minnesota politician that they thought would be the best senator for their state. The incumbent Norm Coleman ran against the democratic candidate Al Franken. At the beginning of the race, it looked as thought Coleman would have no problem keeping his seat. However, a democratic craze taking over the country and the dissatisfaction of Minnesota politics as usual lead Franken to catch up in the polls. Coleman quickly started distancing himself from the Bush administration and it’s policies in order to show independence. Both Minnesota politicians did their best to talk to voters and get their message heard. Franken’s advantage was that he was new to Minnesota politics, so he was not prone to make the mistakes that a typical Minnesota politician would. Franken’s campaign was honest and he was very outspoken about what in Minnesota politics he disagreed with, while Coleman was not so eager to explain why he had sided with President Bush on so many issues. Minnesota DUI Laws
Many speculate whether the Minnesota DUI laws are too harsh or not strict enough. Either way, everyone can agree that getting a Minnesota DUI sure does have it’s consequences. Minnesota DUI laws include fines, jail time and license suspension even after the first offense. It gets worse witch each subsequent offense. – Minnesota DUI laws state that after your first Minnesota DUI, one could face up to 3 months in jail, face fines that could exceed $1,000 and have their license suspended for up to 1 year depending on blood alcohol content, age and other factors. -Minnesota DUI laws state that after the second Minnesota DUI, one could face up to a year in jail, fines exceeding $3,000 and license suspension up to a year depending on circumstances. -Minnesota DUI laws state that after your third Minnesota DUI, one could also face up to a year in jail and fees exceeding $3,000 just like after the second offense. However, after the third offense one’s license could be suspended indefinitely and one year rehabilitation could be mandatory. Lawyers in Minnesota Debate Immigration
One of the most important issues concerning Minnesota residents is immigration. There is debate between many lawyers in Minnesota between what is fair or morally right and what is legal. Many Minnesota residents believe there needs to be reform to the current immigration laws. One lawyer in Minnesota demands there should be a fence along the United States and Mexico borders while another lawyer in Minnesota claims that a fence is not a good long term solution. • There are a group of lawyers in Minnesota that believe that there are many illegal immigrants taking jobs that legal Unites States citizens should have. At a time when not only Minnesota’s unemployment rate is high, but the country’s unemployment is rising as well, every Minnesotan should have a fair opportunity to work. Some Minnesota companies, especially those that deal with agriculture hire illegal immigrants because of their experience of the field and their productivity as well as the economic benefits of hiring illegal immigrants.
